African Leopard by hoboinaschoolbus African Leopard by hoboinaschoolbus
A black African leopard. There is no such thing as a black panther. This is a melanistic leopard. :) And she is soooo beautiful.

Well the word ';panther' makes it ambiguous- you can use melanistic or black interchangably but ';panther' doesn't really refer to a species but just a big cat- you'd have to specify cougar/puma vs leopard vs jaguar (even tiger/lion/etc etc), which is why I said there is no such thing, referring to a species, as a black panther.

She really is. :)

I adore black leopards (in case you couldn't tell from my screen name. :p) There's something so striking about those subtle dark patterns in the fur.... almost undetectable.

Lovely shot. :)
